Matthew Glassman, Co-Artistic Director, is an actor, writer, and director who has been working with Double Edge since 2000. In this capacity, Glassman co-leads the creation and performing of Double Edge’s indoor performances and spectacles.

He recently co-created and performed in the World Premier of a new indoor performance Leonora and Alejandro, at Peak Performances at Montclair State University.

As a director, Glassman has worked on Total Verruckt!, a solo performance created by Joanna Caplan which has toured in the US and Canada, and The Oven, a monologue by Ilan Stavans.

Glassman initiated the Art & Survival series which has brought nearly 100 artists and practitioners for collective thinking on the inner workings of artistic practice and its impact on culture. He co-led 2011’s National Rural Arts Convening. He is currently working on an Arts & Culture Through Commoning think tank with participants from the US and Europe.

Glassman has led training and lectured at universities around the country including Emerson College, Yale School of Drama, and Columbia College. Glassman was awarded the Mary Lyon Foundation “Spirit of Adventure Award” for innovative support of local education. Glassman also leads the theater’s strategies toward achieving long-term sustainability. Under his leadership, the company was recently awarded the Art Place America grant.

Glassman has served repeatedly as a grant panelist for the NEA, served on the boards of the Network of Ensemble Theaters, the National Advisory Council for Howlround, and currently serves on the advisory board for Art of the Rural.
