Panel of representatives of the open movement and (big and small) digital archives who will imagine, discuss and reflect about what the future of digital archives could look like. The discussion will consider the different perspectives involved: technological, philosophical, user/contributor, stewards/curators/managers, legal.
The panel discussion will explore the kinds of systemic changes we'd like to see and need in order to enable getting more digital archives into the commons, as well as making these archives more accessible. With contributions from other tracks into the roles each of these areas of work could contribute to creating these systemic changes, it will highlight the interplay between the roles of legal, educational and GLAM institutions, as well as innovations in technology and accessibility/usability.
Possible issues that the panel might discuss relate to the technical relationship between the different archives (common metadata, different technologies that do/don't interact), collaboration and cooperation between the organizations and people involved, small archives and archives of underrepresented communities.
